This article was published on May 2006 , I have to say that some information is not accurate because I was misquoted , the number of seal killed by the used of hackapicks it is actually 10% . This occurs in the Magdalene Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The remaining 90% are hunted with guns , I feel that this is just as cruel , this hunters are not trained snippers and often miss,some of these seals try to scape to the water where they die a slow and painful dead (struck and lost) , others are shot in the bodies , this makes the pelts less valuable and they leave them on the Ice to die.The government does not count these seals in the allowable quota of seals killed.
